Health and Fitness Apps Keep Users on Goal

It is tempting for app publishers to turn everything into a game, but when it comes to health and fitness, that’s not what serious users are looking for.

eMarketer reported on a March 2014 study that found that 70% of respondents used or planned to use health and fitness apps on a daily basis. Surprisingly, competition (2%) was the least prominent reason for why people used these apps. Goal tracking (30%), awareness of health issues (28%), and motivation (27%) were the top reasons. Rather than challenge their friends, users want to encourage each other, keep tabs on calories, and find new workouts that fit a busy life.

A majority of health and fitness app users also planned to use a wearable device, such as a fitness band, which increases the personal investment of consumers in their fitness apps.
