The Virtue of Transparency in Free Apps

We all know that free apps aren’t really free, right? Most consumers understand that part of what they are trading for a free app is information—about themselves, where they live, how much and in what ways they use the app, what devices they use, and more. In fact, according to Zogby’s survey of adult users, 58% of those who download apps prefer free, adsupported apps over paid apps or those with inapp purchases. Survey respondents also liked tools that let them control which ads they saw. blog image 2.0

These consumers are less worried about absolute privacy and more concerned with transparency. They want to know what data is being collected and how it is being used. Cagey publishers make people suspicious and distrustful. Be up front with your customers and they will reward you with loyalty and referrals.
