The Smartphone Has Officially Overtaken the Television
Digital analytics firm Flurry reported in November 2014 that people with smartphones and tablets are now spending more time — 2 hours and 57 minutes a day
— looking at their “second screens” than they are at their first, the television, which clocked in at 2 hours and 48 minutes of use per day.
App use was also up 10% and counting in the first three quarters of 2014.
In response to this news, advertisers are shifting their budgets — big time.
Mary Meeker pointed out in her annual Internet Trends report last year that there was a $30 billion gap in the index between mobile app use and mobile advertising spending. That is an opportunity for advertisers to reach a broad audience and app publishers to make a lot of money if they are nimble and ready to take up these mobile marketing opportunities.
