Productivity Apps Get Busy

According to digital analytics firm Flurry, in the first quarter of 2014 consumers were spending 119% more time (5.5 minutes per day) using productivity apps as compared to the same period a year earlier (2.5 minutes per day). This growth far outstripped other app categories, with news apps coming in second at 64% growth over the previous year’s first quarter. Games, long the kingpin of the mobile app industry, saw only 9% growth in average time spent.

App publishers and advertisers, take note of this significant shift!  Dropbox, Evernote, and other productivity apps that people rely on daily are increasing in popularity. Even PC-dominant Microsoft is on-board, recently releasing Microsoft Office for the iPad. All signs point toward continued growth in usage and revenue for productivity apps — and those who advertise with those publishers.
