Facebook Profits With Native Ads
This time last year, everyone was speculating about whether or not Facebook would crack the mobile monetization mystery. Now 30% of their overall revenue, it appears as if they are figuring it out. Their secret? Native ads that appear in the newsfeed and are formatted to match the rest of the Facebook environment: “The company only announced its first mobile ad offering in February 2012. Since then mobile news-feed ads have become ubiquitous, and gaming companies have seized on mobile app install ads.”
AdAge also discusses how Facebook is starting to focus on measuring the impact of user impressions, instead of just clicks. Citing their recent acquisition of ad server, Atlas, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg says they will soon be able to “demonstrate even more clearly the connection between ad impressions and purchases”.
